March 15, Testacles (1)

I sing of mighty Testacles,
As strong as the god, Hercules,
When he saw evil, he said so.
He did not fear majorities.

Bow down to evil; it will grow
And we’ll be reaping what we sow.
It takes both brains and hormone surge
To be an evil tyrant’s foe.

When ethics and our deeds diverge,
We may sing freedom’s funeral dirge.
We’ll have to fight to win it back.
Unbidden, it won’t re-emerge.

We’re watching our republic crack.
And Testacles has not come back.
We must stand up to tyranny,
Or we’ll lose our democracy.

(1) Testacles is a recently discovered Greek god, a symbol of strength, courage, and honesty. He was the younger brother of Hercules. Both have long since retired to Olympus.
