The emperor without his clothes was just a silly sight,
A picture of delusion, not intended to cause fright.
Our would-be emperor today is frankly frightening.
The old tale of delusion, though, should be enlightening.
The vision of Trump naked may strike one as humorous,
But when we hear his mind exposed, his thoughts are rancorous.
Trump seems to think that he should be the Most High over all.
For those who love democracy, Trump may presage The Fall. (2)
If you report what Donald said and, word for word, it’s true,
Trump might conclude he’s been attacked and then come after you.
The free press is the enemy of all of us, he claims,
And then, brings out his blunderbuss; he’s playing deadly games.
The First Amendment’s guarantee of free speech and free press
Means, even when Trump disapproves, we needn’t acquiesce.
So, citizens, don’t quake in fear when Trump intimidates,
Stand for the law and Constitution Trump repudiates.
It should be obvious by now; we’ve made a huge mistake.
Those who supported Donald gave the whole world a headache.
“The Emperor’s New Clothes” no longer ought to make us laugh.
The story now just might become our nation’s epitaph.
Hans Christian’s naked Emperor was a deluded fool.
But Trump’s ambition is an undisguised attempt to rule.
The time for joking has long passed, for Trump is not benign.
The Courts stand as our last resort as Congress lies supine.
Though RFK likes Donald, measles also pleases him.
He may like naked emperors but his delusion’s grim.
Supporting such delusion may kill our democracy.
