Today we learned that John McCain has died,
A warrior, knowing victory and defeat,
A man of service, honored nationwide,
Whom I regret I never got to meet.
A pilot shot down in a bombing raid
And tortured five years, prisoner of war,
Did not bemoan decisions that he made.
Knocked down, he got up and came back for more.
And now we lay our warrior to rest. Two Presidents say eulogies for him.
Two men to whom he lost, at his request Will now say how his life inspired them.
And, as his casket passes slowly by,
He’s passed the torch; who now will hold it high?
