Now we have laid Jimmy Carter to rest,
A man by whose life, the whole world was blessed.
A man of strong faith, of integrity,
A man of unsullied morality.
The Bible was read, the Beatitudes, (1)
Words read in services when life concludes.
His life was a blessing, filled with good deeds,
Contrasting with some, known more for misdeeds.
A man of strong faith, who critics called “weak,”
Though Jesus had said, “Turn the other cheek,” (2)
His good, Christian life was such a contrast
To most with power and fortunes amassed.
His eulogists all praised this decent man,
Who had lived with us a hundred-year span.
While, right up front, at his funeral, sat
Our next president, an aged, spoiled brat.
Convicted and sentenced, Donald Trump will
Perhaps, finally have to pay his bill,
Which we all know Trump has been loath to do
But, in Donald’s case, is long overdue.
Is Donald Trump worthy enough to serve?
Have you accepted his chutzpah and nerve?
Do you share his hopes for building empire,
While singing praises in his MAGA choir?
He’s no Jimmy Carter; Trump is a crook.
His record is clear if you simply look.
Now Carter is gone; new standards apply.
For Facebook announced it’s OK to lie. (3)
(1) The Beatitudes, from the Sermon on the Mount, are found in the New Testament, Matthew 5:1-12.
(2) Also in the Sermon on the Mount, Matthew 5:38-42.
(3) On January 7, 2025, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, publisher of Facebook, announced that Facebook would stop fact-checking, because of the results of the election. The Bible, in Exodus 20:16, says, “You shall not bear false witness…” Mark Zuckerberg says, “Go ahead.”
