Two angry young men tried to shoot up a school. (1)
But a guard and two others kept them outside.
These three heroes died in a blazing gun duel.
But, thanks to these heroes, not one student died.

The boys were well-armed with guns they brought from home.
One mother called cops and told them of her son,
He was armed with her guns and left home to roam.
She feared there’d be death before this day was done.

Several blocks from the school, the boys were found dead.
Their wounds, self-inflicted, say the news reports.
They had harmed no one else, “Thank God,” people said.
This case will be closed; there’s no need for the courts.

So, five lives were ended, our local death toll. (2)
