December 29, Jimmy Carter and Donald Trump

We just learned today Jimmy Carter has died,
One whose Christian virtues cannot be denied,
Contrasted with one we just chose to elect:
A man whom true Christians should never abide.

This autumn, why did right wing Christians select,
A man of low character they should reject,
With selfishness, lies, and his female abuse,
Immoral behavior, so clear and abject?

For Donald treats most moral norms like refuse,
All he cares about is whatever will juice
His quest for fame, power, and fat bank account,
The common good is of no practical use.

While Donald was thinking of women to mount,
And lying so often, too often to count,
We saw Carter live like a good, moral man;
To care for his fellow man was paramount.

In all of his one hundred yearlong lifespan,
Jimmy Carter obeyed his Lord’s divine plan.
Because of his strong faith, the life that he led
Stands out in stark contrast to Trump, the con man.

An honest, kind man, Jimmy Carter, is dead.
His good deeds have earned him a heavenly bed.
And this last November, we chose to elect
A man about whom this will never be said.
