January 1, The MAGAt’s Civil War

America’s MAGAts are in civil war
About immigration, ‘twixt Bannon’s hard core
And Silicon Valley and Elon’s SpaceX,
And H1b visas, but it’s not complex.

These visas for folks, educated and smart,
To do high tech jobs, are a minimal part
Of all immigrants who arrive in our land
But, nonetheless, Bannon wants all of them banned.

Cheap labor for “high tech” is what H1b
Provides for the workforce in this industry,
But not for farm workers or meat packing plants,
For them, Musk joins Steve’s anti-immigrant stance.

Big bucks back the H1bs; tech billionaires
Have sweetened Trump’s pot and he’s answered their prayers.
In ‘16, Trump said, “I’m against H1bs.”
But now he supports them; for cash, Trump agrees.

Trump makes H2b visas his bottleneck:
Farm workers, construction, housekeepers, “low tech.”
Is big agribusiness now learning that they
Had better write checks too? They must pay to play.

Big business or bigotry, who’ll win the fight?
Steve Bannon’s position seems mostly for spite.
High tech makes big money, which Trump understands.
And they are the guys putting cash in Trump’s hands.

There is one more factor we should think about,
Since Donald has promised to throw brown folks out.
He’ll need to build camps for “low skill” immigrants.
And who’ll get those contracts? Might Trump’s sons, perchance?
