Trump, the Law, and Putin

The “law” is just a word to Trump; its meaning is obscure.
He treats it like a skin rash, orange makeup ought to cure.
We’ve seen him dance around it, even flout it when in court.
But laws are documents that Donald Trump cannot deport.

In Donald’s quest to be the king, he treads on rocky ground.
Our laws are rocks he must remove or find a way around.
On 1-6-2021, Trump’s insurrection failed.
He’ll try again in ‘26, his threats no longer veiled.

If MAGA candidates don’t win, he’ll challenge the results, (1)
All disagreements with him he considers grave insults.
He’ll interfere in states, although the Constitution’s clear, (2)
For Donald must be Lord of All, whom we must all revere.

Our nation is on trial, our democracy attacked.
Trump has a lot of leeway; the Supreme Court has been stacked.
With all these facts becoming clear, what will the voters say?
The current polls say Democrats should win Election Day.

The evidence is piling up; Trump’s clearly picked a side.
He’s chosen to help Vladimir committing homicide.
Democracy and law are both inimical to him.
When Trump is asked to make a choice, he picks the antonym.

One more consideration: what’s Vlad Putin’s further role?
Trump’s serving Putin’s interests and, right now, Vlad’s on a roll.
His term is “useful idiot.” Trump is a sycophant.
He could not serve Vlad better if he was a Russian plant.

So, once again the question: does Vlad have some “Kompromat?” (3)
Or is he Trump’s role model and there is no Russian plot?
Our pessimists believe things are the worst that they could be.
Our optimists say, “Oh no, things could still get worse, you’ll see.”

(1) He’s already done so in Alaska, filing a suit to block certification of the vote
if his chosen Republican does not win.
(2) Article 1, Section 4 of the United States Constitution grants the States the
primary responsibility to conduct federal elections. The Congress, not the
President, may make certain alterations in processes in exceptional
circumstances.
(3) Kompromat is a compound Russian word meaning “compromising
material,” suitable for use in blackmail.
