Obama’s leadership achieved the JCPOA (1)
Then Trump won his election and he threw it all away.
Iran enriched uranium to almost weapon’s grade. (2)
As usual with Trump, we’re saddled with the mess he made.

So, Donald started bombing and, surprise! Iran fought back.
Now, all their Mideast neighborhood is subject to attack.
With cheap drone strikes, they’re setting neighbors’ oil fields aflame.
This ancient empire knows quite well how despots play the game.

We bombed a girl’s school by mistake; a hundred sixty died.
At first Trump tried denying this but it’s clear that he lied.
By killing their civilians, moral high ground has been lost.
And, even more important, is the weekly mounting cost.

To Trump’s complete surprise, the Strait of Hormuz was shut tight,
Another way Iranians showed us how they would fight.
All crude oil tanker traffic fell by ninety nine percent
And Donald hasn’t opened it with warships that he sent.

The price of gasoline shot up, all other prices, too.
And now the whole world’s angry at what we’ve let Donald do.
No one respects us any more; we’re unreliable.
And, even MAGAts recognize that Trump’s responsible. (3)

Trump’s now requesting one and one half TRILLION dollars more.
(We can’t afford our health care but we can afford Trump’s war.)
Negotiations broken down, there seems no path to peace,
Between Iran’s hard-liners and Trump’s addled brain’s caprice.

So now the world is dancing to the Bibi-Donald tune,
And we’ll have even more of Trump, the 14th of this June,
For he’ll be eighty on that day! We’ll have a huge parade
With marching bands and troops and naturally, a Trump tirade.

Then, on July the Fourth, we’ll have our Independence Day, (4)
With Donald Trump presiding over this huge holiday.
We’ll celebrate our revolution and democracy,
But in the shadow of infection by autocracy.

(1) In 2015, Iran, the USA, United Kingdom, China, France, Germany, and Russia
signed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, which monitored and
controlled Iran’s nuclear program. It provided for on-the-ground
inspections and limited Iran’s uranium enrichment program. Iran also
promised never to develop a nuclear bomb. Trump tore up the agreement
in 2018.
(2) Iran restarted its uranium enrichment program and now has over 900
pounds of uranium enriched to about 60% U235. 90% is considered
weapon’s grade. The JCPOA limited enrichment to 3.7%, suitable for nuclear
reactors.
