November 27, Jack Smith Throws in the Towel

Jack Smith threw in the towel on a technicality.
His evidence was solid on Trump’s criminality.
The policy of DOJ is not to prosecute
A sitting president, a practice Smith would not dispute.

We know Trump ran for president so he could be in charge.
Dismissing all his cases would ensure he’d stay at large.
State prosecutions would remain, but they could all be stalled,
And leave Trump roaming free with legal ethicists appalled.

The method to Jack’s madness was he’d finish his report,
Which would detail the reasons he hauled Donald into court.
He’ll send it to the AG, who should read it right away,
And then, all of Jack’s evidence might see the light of day.

Judge Chutkan has agreed with Jack and ruled to drop the case.
She did so, without prejudice, indictments stay in place.
Which means, when Trump leaves office, he might face a trial again.
So, Trump’s reprieve is temporary from the lion’s den.

When we read Jack Smith’s evidence, what will be its effect?
(Established facts we can be sure Trump’s MAGAts will reject.)
And Trump will say, “Exonerated!” but he’s no such thing.
And he’ll fly past the storm clouds on his way to be crowned “king.”

To measure Jack’s effect, we’ll have to wait for history.
Will Donald burn Jack at the stake to show his victory?
Will Donald start an Inquisition, burning “heretics?”
Will free speech disappear in autocratic politics?

Since facts, however inconvenient, tend to hang around,
Despite dictators’ tendencies to plow them under ground,
The crimes that Trump committed certainly will be exposed,
Although, in Donald’s lifetime, he may never be deposed.

So, we’ll learn what Trump did and how the privileged escape.
There’s insurrection, business fraud, and E. Jean Carroll’s “rape.”
Trump’s loyalists all pay the price for singing Donald’s tune
But our Supreme Court has just ruled that Donald is immune.

Now, here comes Trump’s autocracy; can anyone resist?
Because Trump is a narcissist, we know he won’t desist.
And Donald’s minions will be seeking profits just like Trump’s.
But, if they’re prosecuted, Trump will let them take their lumps.
