May 7, Uphold the Constitution?

Must he uphold the Constitution?
Trump answered, “I don’t know.”
Trump thinks that he has absolution (1)
For how he runs the show.
Despite the oaths that he’s twice taken, (2)
Trump says that he’s confused.
And legal experts have been shaken
By laws Trump has abused.

When Donald gets told, “No!” by judges,
Who say, “You’re out of line,”
Perhaps from statutes that he fudges,
Then Trump will rant and whine.
How dare some jurists overrule him
And say he broke the law,
And worse, some comics ridicule him,
On TV we all saw. (3)

Trump has enacted lots of orders;
His signature is huge. (4)
And he says he’ll expand our borders.
Greenland must seek refuge.
And Canada is in Trump’s vision,
State number, fifty-one.
Trump’s standing firm in his decision,
Until their land is won.

Acquire new land, kill vaccinations,
Let RFK ruin health.
Put stupid tariffs on all nations,
Let bribes increase Trump’s wealth. (5)
Ignore all experts when presenting,
Ideas based on facts.
Let Donald’s peristaltic venting
Serve as his battle ax.

If you ask Trump, he runs the planet.
His gut is always right.
No need for research to help plan it,
Trump rules by Divine Right.
Trump’s frontal lobes, with static blipping,
Lead the whole world astray.
And when his crown is clearly slipping,
They’ll sing O Happy Day! (6)

(1) Supreme Court ruling, 2024, the president can’t be criminally prosecuted for official acts.
(2) The Presidential Oath of Office promises to, “to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.” This invites MAGA lawyers to quibble over Trump’s ability and whether, “preserve, protect, and defend includes “upholding.”
(3) Late night TV comics, Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert make Trump jokes almost every night in their monologues.
(4) And getting bigger.
(5) Speech on April 9, 2025.
(6) O Happy Day is a gospel arrangement recorded by the Edwin Hawkins Singers in 1967. The original hymn was written in 1755 by Philip Doddridge.
