May 29, Worshipping the Gun  (parody to ‘Bringing In the Sheaves’)

May 29, Worshipping the Gun  (Sing to Bringing In the Sheaves) (1)

Slaughtering our students,

Showing gross imprudence,

Stupid jurisprudence,

Worshipping the gun.

Ethical inverter,

Tolerating murder,

What could be absurder?

Worshipping the gun.

Chorus:

Worshipping the gun,

Worshipping the gun,

NRA rejoicing,

Worshipping the gun.

Worshipping the gun,

Worshipping the gun,

Republicans endorsing,

Worshipping the gun.

Verse:

It’s mass murder season,

There’s no rhyme or reason,

NRA appeasin’,

Worshipping the gun.

Once again, we’re grieving,

Christians still believing,

Ted Cruz still deceiving,

Worshipping the gun.

Chorus:

Worshipping the gun….

Verse:

Read the First Commandment (2)

Then the next Commandment;

Do we need disbandment

Of the NRA?

“Now your days are stormy,

“Too late to implore Me,

“You put gods before Me.”

That’s what God would say.

Chorus:

Worshipping the gun,

Worshipping the gun,

NRA rejoicing,

Worshipping the gun.

Regulating guns, (3)

Regulating guns,

Let us start enforcing

Regulating guns.

  • Bringing In the Sheaves is a popular, mostly Protestant, Christian hymn. The lyrics were written by Knowles Shaw in 1874 and the most popular melody by George Minor in 1880.  The message of the hymn is basically, “You reap what you sow.”
  • The First of the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20: 2) commands that, because God brought the children of Israel out of Egypt, they (we) should have no other gods before Him. The Second Commandment follows with the banning of making and bowing down to idols or other false gods.
  • The Second Amendment begins, “A well regulated Militia…” We are violating the First, Second, and Sixth Commandments (You shall not murder.) in the Bible and the Second Amendment of the Constitution.  And we are paying in our most precious coin.
