On Darwin Day and Lincoln Day,
Both would be horrified
To see what we have done today:
As their work’s nullified.
The Civil Rights that Abe began:
To end black slavery,
To recognize a man’s a man,
May fade from history.
The thought that government should serve,
Was Lincoln’s firm belief.
But Donald thinks it should preserve
His family’s private fief.
Though Charles Darwin’s insight shows
All species have evolved,
Trump’s Fundamentalists oppose
A problem Darwin solved.
Now, due to Darwin’s deep insight,
Biology makes sense.
But Trumpists just accept the light
Of Divine Providence.
The worth of each and every one,
All life’s varieties,
Ideas that may be undone,
By Trump’s MAGAt disease.
A day to honor two great men
A statesman, scientist,
Reminds us we must fight again;
Lest ignorance persist.
(1) Charles Darwin and Abraham Lincoln were both born on February 12, 1809. The effect that each man had on both his times and the world since is undeniable.
