“Pusillanimous pussyfooters” have made their return, (1)
A moniker Mike Johnson and John Thune both clearly earn. (2)
These “vacillating vicars,” staying loyal to their Don, (3)
Evaporate their self-respect in Trump’s ongoing con.
Though Trump is no sophisticate, he’s supercilious,
A plywood fiddle, who thinks he’s a Stradivarius.
Supporting Trump therefore demands pusillanimity
And assiduous avoidance of Donald’s enmity.
The spiritual gyrations that Mike Johnson must go through,
Preserving Christian principles while he must misconstrue
The Trump prevarications that he tries to reconcile,
Make Johnson a false witness who’s provoking Satan’s smile. (4)
White Christian patriarchy, when presented to the Pope,
With theologic jactitation, far exceeds the scope
Of scholarly theology, as learned by JD Vance (5)
And everyone whose “johnson” has been singed by flaming pants.
Defending Nixon, Spiro Agnew had to pussyfoot.
Alliteration served his goal of spreading smokey soot
On everyone condemning Tricky Dicky for his crimes.
For those defending Donald, it’s returning to old times.
But those defending Donald don’t have Agnew’s writers now.
No clever turns of phrase for all Trump’s lies that they avow.
They must be pusillanimous and pussyfoot around
The truth, fissile uranium, Trump’s buried underground.
(1) Spiro Agnew, Nixon’s first Vice President, used to give speeches full of
colorful, alliterative phrases, demeaning Nixon’s critics.
(2) Speaker of the House and Majority Leader of the Senate.
(3) Another Agnewism.
(4) One enjoys a certain amount of schadenfreude watching the professed
Christian, Mike Johnson, twisting himself into a pretzel to defend some of
Trump’s egregiousness. Also see, Exodus 20:13, Exodus 23:1, and
Deuteronomy 5:17.
(5) JD Vance, visiting Pope Leo, tried to argue with the Pope about the proper
interpretation of “Love thy neighbor.” The Pope took JD to school.
