July 18, Uvalde Shooting Report (May be sung to Long Black Veil) (1)

Late in the Spring in a small Texas town,

A kid with a gun, shot twenty one down.

His AR 15 spat round after round;

And twenty one souls were sent heaven bound.

The good guys with guns would all hesitate

For more than an hour, left kids to their fate.

Some died instantly; some lives ebbed away

That could have been saved but for that delay.

Chorus:

Their mothers weep in a long, black veil,

Kneel at new graves; the world hears them wail.

Why must we lose our daughters and sons?

Why can’t we see it’s guns?

Committees have met and here’s what they said.

Confused leadership left all those kids dead.

Bad leadership, which the whole country’s seen,

Not one word about the AR 15.

Chorus:

Though mothers weep in their long, black veils,

Texas relaxed laws for firearm sales.

Why can’t they see the obvious cause?

Texas relaxed gun laws.

Coda:

Why must we lose our daughters and sons?

Why can’t we see it’s guns?
