Supreme Court justices approved states’ racial bigotry. (1)
So, Jim Crow will come back again, thanks to their sophistry.
Our racial bigots do not want black folks to win a vote.
They’ll gerrymander castles with high walls and a deep moat.
The Constitution, as amended, pronounces a “No, no,” (2)
To laws that tell black citizens “No, you folks may not go,
To cast your vote, especially, to cast a vote and win.
The MAGA movement simply wants us governed by white men.
Since our Supreme Court has just ruled that bigotry’s OK,
As long as it is couched in terms spelled out Alito’s way,
You can’t draw voting districts with a black majority, (3)
But it’s OK to draw them with a black minority.
Black folks are mostly Democrats, so spread them here and there,
Diluted with Republicans, then send in ICE to scare
A lot of them away from polls; then ban their votes by mail.
And, if they still try voting, you can cart them off to jail.
The Voting Rights Act became law in 1965,
With racial bigots since then all continuing to strive,
To keep blacks, mostly Democrats, from winning in the Fall.
They’ve gerrymandered districts, keeping black influence small.
Alito and his cronies have now voted, six to three,
That bigots may use “partisan,” racial chicanery.
You can’t make districts mostly black but mostly white’s alright.
Since blacks vote mostly left, you can dilute them with the right. (4)
We all know that black slavery is part of history.
But bigotry’s still going strong in this new century.
What can we do to cleanse this dark stain from some of our souls,
If our Supreme Court lets white bigots still control the polls?
(1) Louisiana v Callais, April 29.
(2) See Amendments XIV and XV.
(3) The Supreme Court’s ruling basically says that states may not draw “black
majority” districts in order to increase the likelihood of the election of black
representatives to state legislatures and the Congress. That is considered to
be racial discrimination. This effectively guts the 1965 Voting Rights Act.
(4) In so-called “Red States,” black folks are mostly Democrats and white folks
are mostly Republicans.
