Donald Trump, the Rich, and Theology

Donald’s made it clear: decisions are for sale.
Ethicists object, but their objections fail.
Is Trump just a stooge for mega billionaires?
Throughout history, no president compares.

Want a deal with Trump? Just sweeten his account.
Profits on the deal should dwarf Trump’s graft amount.
A million here and there, so far, seals the deal.
Moralists object; so what? Trump lets them squeal.

‘Til now, Donald’s deals have cleared two billion, net.
How much more he’ll squeeze, an open Kalshi bet.
Rich folks all expect that they’ll be shaken down,
Dealing with the guy who thinks he wears a crown.

Money is the king, here, everywhere abroad.
Trump’s the Pope of cash, which is the highest god.
Aten, Amun Ra, and even Jesus Christ, (1)
Have been cast aside in Donald Trump’s Weltgeist. (2)

Churches, synagogues, are temples to the past.
Ancient gods of yore have now all been bypassed.
Donald, as High Priest, and each rich acolyte,
Show us their true god, bathed in a golden light.

Ozymandias: to us, Ramses the Great, (3)
Granite images: will that be Donald’s fate?
Will Trump last as long? Right now, he’s on a roll.
Will we hear his cries as Satan roasts his soul?

(1) Aten (the sun) was the chief god of the pharaoh, Akhenaten, ca 1353-1336
BCE. Akhenaten has been called by some, “the first monotheist.” He
replaced the former chief god, Amun Ra with his own favorite god.
(2) Read the works of Georg Friedrich Wilhelm Hegel, then write a 500 word
essay on the difference between Zeitgeist und Weltgeist. Make it your own
work, not A.I.
(3) Read Ozymandias, by Percy Bysshe Shelley, 1818. Write a sonnet in your
own words about how the passage of time eventually erodes the pomp and
circumstance (even the gods) of any age.
