Now Trump and nineteen countries signed a Gaza plan for peace,
Which says that all the shooting and the bombing have to cease.
Hamas gave back their hostages, at least those still alive,
Though sadly, most of those that they kidnapped did not survive.
There were a hundred photo ops and Donald Trump was praised.
The pictures of what’s left of Gaza show it’s all been razed.
The problem now: can this peace hold? Can Gaza be rebuilt?
Those advocating vengeance suggest more blood may be spilt.
The prisoner exchange went on as planned; that’s a good start.
And Gazans started heading home, though with a heavy heart.
For mostly they find rubble where apartments used to be.
The TV news confirms the piles of rubble by the sea.
Rebuilding Gaza must come next, so who will pay for that?
And who will rise to govern there? Another autocrat?
While Bibi wants the Gazans gone and Trump wants a resort.
And who would welcome Gazans? There’s a storm. Is there a port?
The West Bank Palestinians, a huge problem as well.
Will they declare their longed-for state? Then will settlers rebel?
Can there be two states side by side? Those problems all remain.
Since 1947, all peace deals have been in vain.
Of all those who have worked for peace, most would prefer two states.
Hardliners though, on both sides, hope the other side vacates.
The jingoists, the pacifists, the Muslims and the Jews,
The Christians and the secular, want different avenues.
The Muslims and the Jews are both the sons of Abraham.
And they’ve been feuding ever since, their family ties, a sham.
When God gave Abraham this land, did He foresee this fight?
They’re brothers, sisters, family. When will they see the light?
Right now we have a ceasefire but that is not a true peace.
What will it take to make the hatred on both sides decrease?
The Jews have built a vibrant state. Can Muslims do the same?
If Trump helps them to do it, then he will deserve the fame.
