Trump mentioned, “dictator” a couple of times,
Said it with a smile and claimed some folks approve.
Mark Twain noted history frequently rhymes.
Now, Donald Trump follows the “dictator groove.”
Donald Trump clearly wants to rule by decree.
He doesn’t need Congress; he doesn’t need courts.
Congress has rolled over to Trump’s knavery.
So, now let us see what the public supports.
Some judges still stand firm but will the courts hold?
For Trump won’t stop pushing ‘til he gets his way.
Our laws, Constitution left out in the cold,
In office once more, Trump’s intending to stay.
A contest ‘twixt power and democracy,
The will of the people or will of one man.
Seize power, the point of Trump’s presidency,
Following Project 2025’s plan.
Donald’s motives are clear; he wants to be king.
An absolute monarch like Putin or Xi,
Or the Pope with the faithful kissing his ring.
The alpha, omega of theology. (1)
“Dictator” sounds crude, “autocrat” more benign.
“Emperor” may be better, higher than “king.”
If Donald can say, “What was yours is now mine,”
Then he’ll let us call him most any old thing.
Will we soon be crowning “King Donald, the First?”
Will dams that once held our democracy burst?
Will we give in to Trump’s unquenchable thirst?
Will he try one more Putsch— mit Bier und Bratwurst? (2)
(1)A statement attributed to Jesus: Revelation 22, 13-15. The alpha and
the omega means the beginning and the end.
(2)A Putsch in German means a violent attempt to overthrow a
government, like Hitler tried in 1923 in Munich and Trump tried on
1-6-2021 after he lost the presidency to Joe Biden. Hitler’s
unsuccessful attempt to overthrow the Weimar Republic has been
called the Beerhall Putsch.
