The day that the dinosaurs died,
The day that our planet was fried,
An asteroid struck,
What disastrous luck
A rock ten kilometers wide.
The impact caused oceans to boil,
Glass tektites were fused in the soil
The air caught on fire;
Results were so dire
That Cretaceous life became oil.
Chorus:
The day that the dinosaurs, (most of them) died
A rock ten kilometers, (six miles) wide
Smacked North Yucatan
And mammals began
To spread from the KT, (Cretaceous) divide.
And asteroids are still out there,
Though most of them burn up in air,
With rocks big enough
We know things get rough,
And asteroid strikes are not rare.
So, we know we’ll get whacked again,
A knockout punch right on the chin.
In this coming bout,
If we get knocked out,
What species might take over then?
Chorus:
The day that the dinosaurs, (most of them) died….
