O of T 2004 Plans
The Opossums of Truth are back after a few months' respite. Steve has been writing new songs for concerts and our upcoming CD recording session in April 2004. Before an unprecedented CD recording, the O of T will delight audiences again at our annual Darwin Birthday concert at the Carlsbad Village Theater this year. The concert will be Saturday, February 21, 2004. Again, this year, we will have Becky Cherlin as a guest vocalist and as always, a few surprises and of course, Darwin Birthday Brownies after singing Happy Birthday to our inspirational source. Stay tuned to the website for further notices, although there will be fliers and publicity around town.
In April, Scientific Gospel Productions is going to depart a bit from the usual CD styling and repertoire by the Opossums of Truth. Steve will be featuring some of his more serious, ethical and global attitudes as he sings some ballads and some Jewishly inspired compositions. However, no Scientific Gospel CD would be complete without the usual comedic, satiric and downright irreverent songs, and this CD will be no exception.
As usual, the funny songs are all based on actual news stories, recent scientific revelations, or Fundamentalist religious pronouncements. You can only imagine the hilarity of "The Gefilte Fish Messiah." It's in the same vein as "The Virgin of Spumoni!" Other Jewishly inspired songs will be for children, sung by children. There will be songs about the world's political unrest and a tribute to the victims of September 11th. Another departure from our usual recording style is the addition of guest vocalists. Daniel Baird, Becky Cherlin and kids from Becky's youth theater group, The J* Company, will add another dimension to SG. The debut of this album will most likely occur at the Garfield Theater at the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center in La Jolla in August 2004. Why you ask? Well, one of the Opossums is getting married to an incredible musical theater lady in June, and this CD will their last as single performers.
Daniel and Becky will be married June 26, 2004. After a honeymoon in Hawaii, they will return to perform at the Friday the 13th Superstition Bash and banquet dinner with the band in August, this time as husband and wife at HUMANICON Southwest 2004 in Scottsdale, AZ. According to their website, the conference is described as this: "To paraphrase the song, this is the Dawning of the Age of Humanism. If ever there was a need for us to embrace the Humanist philosophy and expand the Humanist movement, this is the time -- these early years of the 21st Century! Join us as we spend an exciting weekend in the company of our fellow Humanists, Freethinkers, Atheists, Agnostics, Brights and Skeptics from the Southwest and across the nation." At the Friday cocktail party, the O of T will play a more risqué and political short concert and at the banquet, they will return to their more humanistic and rationalistic compositions. For more information on this conference and the concert,go to their website: http://humaniconsw.hsgp.org/.
The complexion of the band will be brighter and prettier, but the songs just as irreverent, rational and humorous as ever. Consult our website for further details of the band's 2004 schedule. Happy New Year to all and may we see peace in the world very soon.
