Summer with the Opossums of Truth
Solana Beach - April 30, 2002
The Opossums of Truth will be the featured band at a Summer Solstice concert on June 23, 2002 around noon. The concert, sponsored by Atheists United, will be at the Center for Inquiry West, 4773 Hollywood Blvd, Hollywood, CA. Dr. Baird and the Opossums of Truth will continue their Scientific Gospel themes of praise for the Big Bang, the reasons for the season, and evolution, with an emphasis, of course, on the pitfalls of false gods and the preference for data based decisions over fundamentalist belief systems. The band will also provide an anthem for the group: "Atheism Has No Holidays."
Invited for a return engagement, the Opossums will again give the 'sermon' in concert at the Sunday morning service for the Palomar Unitarian Universalist Church in Vista at 1600 Buena Vista Drive on Sunday, July 7, 2002 around 10 a.m. At this service, the band will sing about what would really happen if all children were allowed to pray in the public schools. Two new songs will be debuted as well: a ballad telling the story of an explorer's travels because he believed in the shadow of the moon more than the church's explanation of geography; "A Glimpse of Heaven" will reveal more about black holes and star formation.
As with all Scientific Gospel concerts, they will start at the Beginning and end with the End. If you still have not purchased Dr. Bairdís CDs, go to: www.scientificgospel.com to buy "Ain't Gonna Be No Judgment Day," and www.psbrecords.com for "Hallelujah! Evolution." CD's are now available at the UCSD campus bookstore, Tower Records in La Jolla, Buffalo Brothers Vintage Guitars in Carlsbad, and online at www.evolvefish.com. More specific information regarding concert times for the above two concerts will be forthcoming in the coming month. In the meantime, remember, EVOLUTION IS THE WAY.
