Hypocrites

It seems that hypocrisy is not in the vocabulary of Fundamentalists and Conservative Republicans. They are against gun control but condemn school boards and principals when a child enters a campus with guns ablaze. They are against birth control, but also are against any kind of government aid to the poor mother with 6 starving children that were produced because of a lack of birth control. They are against abortion but are only concerned for the fetus’s welfare until its birth; but they often practice “choice” for their own daughter who was ‘knocked up’ ignoring the admonitions of ‘just say no,’ forgetting their virginity ‘pledge,’ and not practicing ‘safe sex.’ They want doctors to heal them and their families but are against stem cell research and some are against childhood vaccination. They don't want any government sponsored universal health care plan, but they don't want to pay high prices for health insurance and rail against physician and hospital costs. They are against euthanasia for the chronically ill who want to die or those in a persistent, vegetative state, yet support killing our own soldiers in futile wars and people of other nations who do not conform to their religious ideals. They are against medically indicated marijuana use, but often drink to excess, take uppers and downers, and pop pain pills. They oppose the high prices of gasoline to drive their large fuel-inefficient cars, but support regimes and corporations who are keeping those oil prices high for purposes of unbridled greed. They still condemn Bill Clinton for his sexual indiscretions that were none of their business so many years ago, but do not condemn their own political and religious friends who perform far worse indiscretions, both sexual and political. They want to impose Democracy around the world, yet condone stolen elections in our country. They insist our country was founded as a Christian nation and want the government to allow religion in the hallowed halls of Congress and in our educational system. Yet, they ignore those same Founders’ admonitions regarding the establishment of a state religion as found in our Constitution. The worst hypocrisy, however, that they preach religious morals of Jesus Christ, but do not actually follow the tenets of his philosophy regarding the poor, the sick, the under-served, the alienated, the disenfranchised. Jesus threw the money-lenders out of the Temple. We should throw the Conservatives and Fundamentalists out of our government. If they don’t want large government, then they should not run for public office to be a part of it.

An email to me tells an amusing story:

TAILGATING

An honest man was being tailgated by a stressed out woman on a busy boulevard. Suddenly, the light turned yellow, just in front of him. He did the right thing, stopping at the crosswalk, even though he could have beaten the red light by accelerating through the intersection.

The tailgating woman hit the roof and the horn, screaming in frustration as she missed her chance to get through the intersection. As she was still in mid-rant, she heard a tap on her window and looked up into the face of a very serious police officer. The officer ordered her to exit her car with her hands up. He took her to the police station where she was searched, finger printed, photographed, and placed in a holding cell.

After a couple of hours, a policeman approached the cell and opened the door. She was escorted back to the booking desk where the arresting Officer was waiting with her personal effects.

He said, "I'm very sorry for this mistake. You see, I pulled up behind your car while you were blowing your horn, flipping off the guy in front of you, and cussing a blue streak at him. I noticed the 'Choose Life' license plate holder, the 'What Would Jesus Do?' bumper sticker, the 'Follow Me to Sunday-School' bumper sticker, and the chrome-plated Christian fish emblem on the trunk.

Naturally, I assumed you had stolen the car."
